How to make Homemade Scones
In the Kitchen
It has been a busy week getting the house ready for visitors, my mother is visiting from down in somerset and my niece from North Carolina. Come and join me in the kitchen, ive been busy baking another batch of scones for our guests. Theres nothing better than an English cream tea when the sun is shining and troubles seem far away.
Scones
Ingredients (produces 20)
450g self raising flour
110g butter
pinch salt
50g caster sugar
300ml milk
50g sultanas
Preheat oven to electric 220c/gas 7. Sieve flour and salt into a mixing bowl and rub the butter into the flour until it resembles breadcrumbs. Add the sugar to bowl the and mix in the milk until the mixture is soft but not sticky.
Pop the mixture onto a floured surface and Knead it gently into a soft dough and rollout to approx 2" thickness. Using a cutter of the desired size cut out the scones and re-knead any left over dough and recut until all dough is used. Place on a baking sheet brush tops with milk and bake for approx 15- 20 mins.
When scones are delicately browned remove from the oven and leave to cool on a wire rack. I must check on my visitors , they have come a long way especially North Carolina.
Pop the Kettle on for a fresh brew and enjoy with family and friends. How scrumptious. x
